Exploring East Java With CP, Sulaiman, and Zack

Since ±9.00 AM in the morning; Andreas, Jibrel, and I had been getting ready at the arrival terminal of Juanda International Airport. That day, August 17th 2017, was a special day. Beside coinciding with National Day of Indonesia, on that day Parkour Surabaya had 3 special guests from Singapore: Koh Chen Pin (CP), Sulaiman, and Zack. They came to enliven Surabaya Parkour Festival 2017, and CP himself would be one of the four judges in freestyle competition. But before we’re busy with all the event uproar on 21st - 23rd August, we obviously wanted to refresh our mind for a moment.

Without waiting any longer, from the airport we went directly to Jombang by motorcycle. A two hour journey under the scorching sun really made all of us exhausted, but it definitely didn’t lessen our adventure excitement. Once arrived, we decided to have lunch first before jamming in Jombang Parkour Park a.k.a. Taman Keplaksari. We jammed together with JOKER (Parkour Jombang) crews until afternoon, and then continued with eating Es Degan Durian (mixed durian-coconut ice) afterwards. By the sunset, the six of us headed to Kediri to stay overnight in Andreas’ parents’ house.

The next day, our adventure continued towards Mount Kelud. Unfortunately due to several reasons the climbing route was closed to public when we’re on our way up, so reluctantly we had to go back down. But at least we could take some pictures there.

From Mount Kelud then we continued to Wisata Paralayang (Paragliding Tour) in Batu city. But we decided not to try one because the price was quite expensive for us (Rp 400,000 [USD 30.28] per person only for 10-15 minutes flying), and also the queue was so long. Instead, we just enjoy the scenery and cool mountain breezes while resting for a while after ±2.5 hours trip from Kediri.

By the sunset we continued our trip to Batu town square. We tried some different street food there while waiting Andreas and Jibrel prayed in the mosque nearby. After feeling satisfied with our culinary tour, then we went to the house of Agus Purwanto a.k.a. Brex in Malang for staying overnight there. Just info, he is the founder of Play_on Parkour Malang.

By the way, if visiting Brex’s house, it feels incomplete if we don’t stop by to Jenon natural water spring. So that’s why on the next morning we decided to go there, which only took ±15 minutes by motorcycle. Besides the six of us, there were also Feikal and Raedy who just arrived from Jakarta, then Teguh from Play_on Parkour Malang. Everyone was having fun in “Jenon Party” till about midday.

And before returning to Surabaya, we didn’t forget to visit Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan, a famous colored village in Malang which was a slum once, but now has been transformed into tourist attraction. Both domestic and foreign tourists like to visit here. The seven of us (Teguh, Andreas, Jibrel, CP, Sulaiman, Zack, and I) explored this place until afternoon and also stopped by for a moment at Ramayana mall just to pass the time.

By the sunset, the six of us split up with Teguh to return to Surabaya. Although we still wanted to travel more, but we had to go back due to the Parkour-Festival-committee-task that had waited for us. We ended this short trip so that we weren’t too tired during the D-day.
